What started as a passion for surfing and sustainability turned into a full-fledged obsession with shaping discarded surfboard resin into wearable art. Abby wears many hats—designer, maker, storyteller, and the driving force behind Surf Gems. She spends her days chiseling, grinding, and refining each gem by hand, all while dreaming up the next evolution of the brand.

When Abby first launched Surf Gems, the entire online inventory fit inside a 10-inch box. Not long after, she left for a surf trip and asked her mom, Jennifer, to help with shipping. That tiny operation has since grown, and Jennifer now runs the one-woman fulfillment powerhouse—packing, shipping, and keeping everything running smoothly. She also oversees production, managing the "Gemseembly" process and our in-person market program. If Surf Gems has a beating heart, Jennifer keeps it pumping.

Our radiant Market Lead and the face of Surf Gems at festivals, pop-ups, and markets! Sophie brings pure joy wherever she goes — she’s organized, thoughtful, and makes everything run smoother. Before joining us, she ran her own handmade swimwear brand, so she knows what it means to pour your heart into your craft. We honestly don’t know how we did it without her!

Nathan brings calm, focus, and intention to the Surf Gems studio — the perfect counterbalance to Abby’s high-energy creative flow. Together, they cut, grind, and drill every piece by hand, geeking out over the vibrant layers and hidden possibilities inside each slab of Surf Rock. Detail-oriented and deeply dedicated, Nathan is also a touring musician and multidimensional creative, infusing rhythm and care into everything he touches.

Kristen joined Surf Gems as a production assistant and quickly became our in-house silversmith. A highly skilled craftsperson with a beautifully artful eye, she’s the talent behind turning long-held dreams of Surf Gems rings into reality. We feel incredibly lucky to have her creativity, precision, and care on our team.

Nico isn’t just Abby’s fiancé—he’s also an engineer, problem solver, and all-around fixer of broken things (which is clutch when you’re running an experimental jewelry studio). With a background in Manufacturing Engineering, he’s the mastermind behind improving production processes, creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and keeping our machines running. Surf Gems is constantly evolving, and Nico ensures the systems evolve with it.

The Surf Gems studio lives inside an old converted darkroom at the back of Steve’s house. As a retired engineer himself, Steve lends his skills to workshop improvements, efficiency hacks, and big brainstorming sessions. He’s also known for whipping up amazing staff lunches—a crucial perk in our hands-on, high-energy studio.

Liz is the heart and mind behind how Surf Gems shows up in the world. A dear friend of Abby’s with deep experience in social media, marketing, and brand strategy, she has a gift for taking a big, multi-layered story and shaping it into a clear, cohesive mission and vision. Liz helps Abby ensure Surf Gems always feels like Surf Gems, translating the story, values, and magic into everything you see and read.
