Our Process

Every Surf Gem begins as something overlooked—a slab of petrified resin, the byproduct of surfboard production. What most would see as waste, we see as raw material, ready to be transformed.
Step 1: Sourcing & Selection
Surf Rock isn’t uniform. Each slab is a layered record of board-making history, carrying unexpected patterns, swirls, and pigments. We carefully select the most compelling pieces—those with dynamic colors and intricate formations—before cutting them down into workable chunks.

Step 2: Shaping & Refining
This is where the heavy lifting happens. In the workshop, we use saws, grinders, and sanders, and drills to shape each gem by hand. It’s a physically demanding process—hours in full-face respirators and covered in resin dust.. Every piece is sculpted to bring out its natural beauty, embracing organic imperfections along the way.
Step 3: Polishing & Finishing
Once shaped, each gem goes through an extensive sanding and polishing process, gradually refined to a buttery-smooth finish. The final touch? Gemssembling, and setting each piece into its intended form—be it an earring, necklace, or bolo tie.

Step 4: Ready to Wear & Share
The result is something completely one-of-a-kind—a piece of jewelry carrying the history of surf culture, the ingenuity of handcraft, and the spirit of transformation. Each Surf Gem is a statement, a conversation starter, and a reminder that beauty exists in the overlooked.
